Does Sierra Nevada do their own malting? That had to be from last year. They better have not even thrown the flowers yet....I haven't been to the hop field lately, but they just got to the top of the twine last I looked. We did harvest our barley though....BrewBasser

Thank's! I don't have much of a green thumb so I'm glad that they are pretty much an "aggressive" plant. They grew more than I had expected this year, but hopefully the harvest will be good... as long as nothing gets to them first. I've got several other first year rhizomes going as well.Interesting. Well they look good!BrewBasser

Depending on the space you have, I would do 3-5 feet apart. They shouldn't cross pollenate and hybridize (or pollenate at all) since all the rhizomes you're likely to purchase are female hop plants.O.K. hop fans , i have a question, can you plant different hops next to each other or will they cross polinate and become hybrid? how much room do you need between them? the reason i asked is the power company replaced all the poles around here so i got 4 20-24 footers i can set and string wire between to to hold the hop strings, want to have 4 varieties i use all the time.
