Anybody have an idea what an empty 5# steel tank weighs. There's nothing stamped on mine that indicates a tare weight. DOT and TC markings are there along with other stuff but no tare??

My aluminum tank weighs 7.6 lbs. You could look up the density of aluminum vs steel and calculate a weight. This of course assumes that they have the same volume. Or you could wait for someone else to post the weight of a steel tank. :smilielol:Just call me Mr. Helpful. ;)

Found some info on ASCO's site, should be 12# including the valve. And I have almost 15# so it should be good. Heading out of town next month and wanted to be sure I had enough to push 6 gal....I thought TW was a legal requirement.........

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been told that (assuming you are all carbed up) that one of the chargers (12 gram, 16 gram, etc.) was more than sufficient to push beer out of the cornie. Seems a bit more "portable" too.

It's your lucky day. I just got a brand new 5# steelie of CO2 today. It weighs in at 17.87 lbs.

Mine was made in 2000. Was that with the regulator?I've never tried the chargers but I've watched a few people lose all the CO2 and run through a bunch of cartridges trying to hook them up. Anyway, this is for a portable kegerator - another converted 70qt igloo cooler that will have a two tap tower. Thanks for the tips guys

Nope, no regulator. I didn't see any tare weight on the cylinder.

+1 on the 12# with valve. JK, I think yours was over-filled slightly. Not uncommon.

I have one of those chargers and love it. Never had a problem with the connections or the cartridges. I've served an entire 5gal corny on two cartridges.

BTW, I have another 5# steel tank. It has a tare weight on it, 11lb 14 oz. Not sure if that includes the valve.

I weighed this tank when it emptied out. It was 12.02 lbs.

Thanks, that pretty much confirms I have plenty for the knucklehead weekend.
