I have all but the Galena,Munich, and the yeast strain. By Black malt do you mean Black patent? is this the same thing?Looks like a good recipe.

i believe that recipe called for Black Barley .. not black patent Baird's makes a great black barley heres some info Roasted Barley, 300L - Contributes the roasted coffee flavor that is characteristic of Stout. Also adds complexity in Porters, Nut Brown Ales and other dark beer styles. (Un-malted)Black Barley , 500L - This one is an extreme version of Roasted Barley. Black Barley produces color and rich, sharp roasted coffee flavor characteristic of Stout and some Porters. (Un-malted)Black Malt/Black Patent Malt, 500L - Color adjustment for all beer styles. Use with other roasted malts for mild flavored dark beers. Primarily for Stouts and Porters for that deep black color and toasty character. Adds an astringent bite at larger quantities.

I am going out on a limb here, but I am guessing I wouldn't be able to pick out 2/3 lb of Munich in a brew like this. According to one hops substitution chart I found you could sub the following for Galena: Brewers Gold, Nugget, Cluster, Chinook, Eroica, Newport I didn't look through the chart thoroughly but in scanning a few hops I use I think it's probably useful, it can be found here: https://www.brew365....ution_chart.phpI have all but the Galena,Munich, and the yeast strain.

consumes, you are correct the brewer from Deschutes did say black barley in the interview, but the grain used in the clone recipe was black malt or black patent.I would personally go out of my way to get black barley to clone this guy since that is what they use at the brewery. But black malt is in the same color range so it wouldn't be too bad of a sub.As for the Galena sub, I would shoot for the Brewer's Gold since Galena is bred from them. Nugget looks good too.
