I would highly recommend the Belgian Beer Weekend if you are in Brussels Sept 4th - 6th. One of the best beer festivals I have been to.

Haha I did not notice your post on Belgium and I just started a new topic with nearly Identical pics of Cantillon! I just arrived May 21st and will be here until July 20th. Any chance you recall the name of the store where you got Westy 12? I have seen a few shops that only sell bottled beer around the Grand Place, they are pretty spendy but it would be worth it to get a bottle.

Ha ha, yea I saw your thread and looked at the pictures. Vaguely familiar  Lets see, since the reciepts are still in my wallet.... The bottle shop where I got the Westy 12 was Bier Temple. According to the receipt their address is Rue Marche Aux Herbes 56B Brussels, Belgium 1000. They had all 3 actually when I was there last on 10th. They had just gotten the 6 in that morning. 6.50 Euro each as I recall so a little spendy but not bad. Oh yea and Chimay, Duvel, and Leffe are the BMC of Belgium, I only ordered them at the airport when the option was that or Stella. Go out to Beer Circus or the Delerium Cafe and start ordering the ones you can't pronounce. The world of beer in that country is a big BIG place. Enjoy!

I was at Bier Tempel just the other day, damn I must not have noticed, or they ran out which is probably more likely. I know what you mean about Duvel and Chimay being BMC, it is everywhere. Awful story: I watched a girl (American of course) order a Duvel and put two limes in it, because she "always puts limes in my Michelob Ultra!" I wanted to kill her

That's blasphemy, even for Duvel. The Westy is a VERY unassuming bottle. In fact it's exactly what it looks like in my photo. No label, only a cap to identify it. If you walk in the front door, turn right, 3/4 the way up the shelf on the edge closest to the window. I think it was the only one without a label as I recall. Good luck, IMO it's worth the search! If you need a good place to go for food I highly recommend Paon Royal. It's only a couple more blocks west of where Bier Temple is and they have a good beer list, an interesting menu which you can get in english, nice staff, and a small dog that will silently stare you down in hopes you will toss him a fry.Again the receipt in my wallet says Rue du Vieux marche aux grains 6 Oude Graanmarket 6. Its in the square near St. Cathrine's cathedral and has a nice outdoor seating area too!

That church in the middle of Ypers was totally destroyed during WWI. In fact, the entire city was. They have a WWI museum there called "In Flanders Fields" that is about the war in the surrounding countryside. They have before and after and now pics. I stayed in a hotel literally just out of the pic to the right. I remember a lot of stuff from your pics and they sent chills down my spine! Great photojournalism! Too bad you couldn't have stopped in Ghent. That is a great town. I need to go back.....

Hey Strangebrewer... great pics, just got back a couple of days ago from taking 9 university students on almost the same itinerary, only we didn't drive to St Sixtus, we walked the 7 km from the Poperinge train station there and back...... doobahstop went on the trip with us 3 years ago...Absolutely love Ieper and Brugge... stopped in a bar in Ieper and told the owner about the class I teach... toward the end of the evening he asked if I was having one more beer and I said yes I believe I will... he said "i'm going to bring you something I'm not supposed to" and promptly brought back a Westy 12... nice way to finish the night. My wife and I also went to the Delirium Pub in Brussel, thankfully it was around 2 pm and very quiet... awesome place, if I get to it I'll post some of the pics I took inside.Cheers,Jeff
