No brewing here as it is officially a BDW. That's Beer Disposal Weekend. Yeah I just made it up but it is pretty accurate for how things are going to go for this guy. This evening I've already had pints of my American Wheat, IPA, and Irish Red. Cheers!

Not brewing. Did order 100 lb 2-row, 50lb wheat malt and 50lb of Rye malt. Enough yeast to ferment it. I'm going to try to make the same beer most of the time during the summer. Try to get it good enough, to send in for judging.

last night I did the Lagnuitas recipe in the Swap 4m... brewday from now on is Thursday so i don't waste my weekend...

I was all set to brew the Lagunitas IPA clone. Had half the recipe in the shopping basket at the LHBS.Then I saw the flaked rye on the shelf. "Oh yeah, I forgot. My next beer is going to be a rye...."So started putting stuff back. The overly helpful kid at the LHBS was going crazy trying to figure out what I was doing. I made it up on the fly. Ended up with, not sure how or why.7 lbs 2 row3 lbs Belgium 2 row3 lbs Rye flakes1 lb Rye malt1 lb carared0.5 lb caravienna1.50 oz Spalt (old inventory) 60 minutes0.75 oz Liberty 20 minutes0.75 oz Liberty 10 minutes0.50 oz Liberty 5 minutesYeast? Made a large Saison yesterday-my first of any size. Looking forward to seeing how the spices and zests from my backyard work out.

Impulsiveness like adds a sense of adventure to homebrewing that makes it fun.

No doubt.I have two LHBS, one is literally a Mom & Pop 10 minutes south, the other is MoreBeer, 10 minutes north.I usually make the Mom & Pop my first visit, then I hit More Beer. When driving between the two stores I might re-think my recipe. Such is the case here.I saw the carared at MoreBeer and wanted to up the OG. So I got the rye malt, carared and Beligian 2 row. Found I had an extra 1/2 lb of caravienna so I am throwing that in too. When I figured out I had a nice Alt Yeast cake I could use, then the SO-4 will be used some other time. The only notes I keep is the basic recipe. I like the idea of a beer being a one of a kind available for 52 bottles and I may never see it again. Who knows, the next version might be better.zymot

US-05.Belgian Dubbel (or Quad) - 1.085, used 1 lb of dark candi syrup, 1 oz of Perle and 1 oz of Saaz. OG was supposed to be 1.070, oh well. Wyeast 1214.

That funny MAZ, my Saison was intended as big at 1.072 and exploded to 1.080. Spent too much time watching the Lakers instead of the boil. Still, I think 40 ibus and orange/lemon zests should handle it nicely.

Oooh, that sounds nice Steve. BTW, you'll be getting a PM (finally) tomorrow or Wed.

Is this the week for rye recipes or what?I used some flaked rye, never do that again. Stucky stuck stuckers sparge. Had to break out the rice hulls. In the future, rye malt or nothing. The wort is tasting pretty nice. I will go moderate (~.50 BU/GU ratio) on the hops, let the rye shine through.
