THis idea just popped into my head the other day, so I gave it a try:I've always found it to be kind of a PITA to decant off the yeast cake without disturbing it, at least decant when decanting the majority of the wort. After my starter fermented out, I put it into a bowl that would hold it at ~45 degrees. Now all the yeast has settled into one side and I should be able to decant almost all the wort without disturbing the yeast.
One of those little ideas...

Seems simple enough to do when I put the flask in the fridge. Let us know how it works out, if it's better or worse that way.

It works great. When I'm done stirring I'll leave it in the fridge set up like that.I almost always do it when racking as well. The day before moving from a carboy I'll give it a gentle swirl and set it on the edge of a book or something, then later rack with the cane on the up side. As it gets low I'll slowly move the cane down to get almost all of the beer without the yeast/trub.
