If you are building something as many homebrewers tend to do, building it on paper first is a very good idea. A proper drafing program is very useful. But they are not so cheap.Until now, when a 2D program that is free for download. Today, it is a beta release. But as far as I can tell, they intend to keep as a free program.https://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/download-draftsight/It is from the same company that produces SolidWorks 3D modeling program.I gave it a cursory test drive and it seems to have enough features for it to be a winner. I have been using AutoCAD for about 20 years now. As far as 2D drawing goes, it looks to compete very well with AutoCAD.
