I have the oppertunity to pick up a few gallons of local honey for around $28/gallon ... This seems a bit high but not unreasonable. What is everyone se paying right now?

Around here we have been paying $22.50 a gallon for wildflower and $27 a gallon for varietals so I'd say you are well in line. Especially if it is in fact local honey I'd say it's a reasonable deal. The $22.50 per gallon we are paying for wildflower is not western slope Ambrosia. I'd pay $28 a gallon for that any day of the week.

thanksI pretty sure this is actually local. A buddy in castle rock met a small time keeper down there who is willing to unload some product to us in bulk. I'm not sure what elevation or location he keeps at, but there is a good chance it will have a high berry content based on my knowledge of the area.

I'm at $2-3 /lb, so $28 is in line.

I pay +/- $1.75 / lb locally when buying it by the +/- 5 gallon bucket. But the guy likes me and I take him mead. So... YMMV.

Thanks for the additional data point.Have you started that low gravity cyser that we spoke about? I did a few sample blends of my mead light and a cider I have and the idea shows promise at that gravity if fermentation has a similar result as I had with my mead lite.

About 2.60/lb in bulk for local wildflower if you know who to order from. I've paid a bit more recently for small amounts of Buckwheat, Orange Blossom and others. The local wildflower and the KS clover honey I picked up and had picked up ran around 30-40 bucks a gallon.
