yeah, for some reason I was under the impression that BKF was some kind of fancy product (like PBW) that I was generally too cheap to buy.No, that's the skinflint's solution. A plain old 'poor man' would just spring for the BKF.The rich man's solution is to pay someone else to do it for you.

The Star San will re-passivate the stainless??Wow, That might be the kicker for me to finally switch from Iodophor to Star San which I've been thinking of doing anyway.Another thing you can do after a good cleaning is mix up a gallon or so of double-strength Star San — let your keg soak on its side, rotating every few hours. That will help clean up any rust spots that might be in there and repassivate the stainless at the same time. It’s better if you can get some of Five Star’s Acid 5 — it’s specifically designed to clean up stainless — but that’s not easy to get.

Homebrewers are far too worried about the passivation layer on stainless.Stainless doesn't rust unless you use too much bleach on it; scratching stainless won't cause any problems. That's kind of the point of stainless, and the reason that so many wear strips and bearings (and silverware that gets knocked around and nicked in the dishwasher) are made from stainless. The Star San will re-passivate the stainless??

I like the powder, since I can add as much water as I want. a little powder on a wet green scrubby will take about anything off stainless mighty quick.I had the Mrs. pick some BKF up for me. She bought one powder and one liquid. Which is better?
