Mason Jars??? Really??? How did you do that???Anybody have a source for good growlers?I'd like some nice, reusable ones to use for my brew - I carried home brew to a picnic last weekend in Mason jars.
I want some a little sturdier than typical ones from a brewpub. My LHBS has some fantastic ones with a wide mouth, metal handle and a Grolsch-style top, but they're $50 each.
I'd be willing to pay $20 for something nice, but $50 is a bag of grain.Any ideas?

https://www.northern...ard-handle.htmlI think most brewing supply stores have the nice 2 Liter ones with the wide mouth grolsch tops for just under $30.

A guy in my brewclub brings samples in a plastic orange juice container. Myself and others are fond of the 2 liter soda bottle and carb cap. I took homebrew to my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner in 21 2-liter bottles.I have a number of standard screw top growlers from various brewpub and they work well fitting into cooler bags. Those tall flip-top growlers are nice, but they don't fit any of my small coolers.Mason Jars??? Really??? How did you do that???

It seems like the swing top ones seal up better. There have been a lot of times where I open up the twist off variety and I don't get any hiss which tells me they aren't very air tight. It's fine if you are going to consume the beer in a day or two but if there is a chance of long term storage (a couple weeks) I'd want the flip top variety.I don't understand the problem with plain old brew pub growlers. They work fine for me. Sure, the swing top ones are nicer, but I don't find them all that much better.

might be the cap used, huh, if you are talking about the heavy duty 1/2 gallon brown jugs like I assume, then I can only agree. The ones I get at the LHBS are usable for bottle conditioning and always seal perfectly, they have the plastic lid with the truncated cone inside it.I don't understand the problem with plain old brew pub growlers. Same here. I've had some caps that didn't seal, but swapping them out solved the problem.might be the cap used, huh, if you are talking about the heavy duty 1/2 gallon brown jugs like I assume, then I can only agree. The ones I get at the LHBS are usable for bottle conditioning and always seal perfectly, they have the plastic lid with the truncated cone inside it.
