Of course, the best beers in the world are brewed right here in America, but no you haven't had any of them."

After traveling to Europe a few times, my impression is that if you compare what is on their tap vs what is on our taps at the average bar, they have us beat. But for one, I haven't found any IPA that puts hair on your chest quite like an American IPA.

1. (Brewing beer snob) No matter what commercial beer you have, say "yea this beer is ok, but it has too much {ingredient}. i would have done it differently and made it better." +10 snob and douche points if you are talking to the brewer.2. Talk about how the BJCP guidelines are wrong/inadequate.3. For every style of beer make sure you know one that is unobtainable in your area and most people wouldnt have probably ever had. So you can talk about how it is a better example of the style. As you can tell, I consider most beer snobbery as kinda being douchey about it. I prefer to just be passionate about it, educate where I can, and not worry about the rest.

Yes, IMO, offering unsolicited critical evaluations and unsolicited brewing advice to a brewer when sampling his beer is douche bag off the charts.

I prefer to think of a beer snob as someone who goes out of their way to drink something in a green bottle and would think there was something wrong with it if they tasted fresh Heineken.

Claim that you hate Cascade hops because they are over-used.Look down your nose at people who drink highly hopped U.S. beer styles.

If you buy from a decent bottle shop, green and clear bottles are fine.

2. Talk about how the BJCP guidelines are wrong/inadequate.

For the most part I think the guidelines are well written and reasonably accurate. But they're certainly not perfect. Westmalle Dubbel has to be outside of the BJCP color range (10-14 SRM) for dubbels. I'd say most dubbels are for that matter.Posted Image

I'm certainly guilty of that, but it's not out of snobbery. When I go to the country where the beer is brewed and drink a style-setting beer, it's usually pretty different from the BJCP description. I feel like like a lot of the BJCP is based off American brewed versions of the style. There is a difference between a beer snob and a beer nerd. I have a really high standard for beer, but it's not in a 'holier than thou' fashion. A lot of the times I've noticed the snobby ones aren't as well-read as the people who simply love drinking/talking about beer.

I think knowledge reaches a point where it becomes harder to be snobby and holier than thou. The more you find out the more you realize you don't know it all...

The BCM that's been in the frig is now a couple years past the expiration date.Keeping it on hand for the occasional BCM drinker that drops by. Doubt if they could tell the difference any way.
