So I've got 5 or 6 of these 55# malt sacks kicking around....seems like a shame to just trash them. I've hung a few on the wall for decoration but if I keep buying grain in quantity, I'm gonna run out of wall space. Anyone do anything creative/useful with 'em?

I throw them away. While I'm a big fan of reuse/recycling, I don't feel like I *have* to reuse everything that come in the door for some other purpose.

I hope you're talking about the paper bags and not the plastic ones...I trash mine too. I'll fill them with other trash if I need to clean out the garage or something. The only use I could think of would be to re-fill it with malt. If you can buy malt direct from the maltster or a micro that gets it in bulk, then the bags would be the perfect thing to put it in.

I put the spent grains back into them and put them out for the trash collection. I get most of my grain at the LHBS and take it home in used bags they have at the shop.

A buddies wife makes carrying bags out of them. Cuts pieces into a bag shaped pieces and sows a inner liner into them. Adds straps for handles. Looks just like the saks you use to bring groceries home from the hippie stores that do not use paper or plastic. These bags are cool as hell.

I know that some local brewery will fill your sack w/grain and sell it to you. I have read that is how some HBer get their base malts.

Spent grains from the last batch of the bag go in them to get set out for trash. I usually regret doing this, because they leak, but by the time I have another empty bag I usually forget. :P

She should start making purses, messenger bags, etc. That would be pretty neat.
