I finally cracked open my pound of Northern Brewer to bitter my GPils. It's been a while since I've used NB, man it has a great bittering character. I'm definitely going to be using up the rest of this pound quickly.

I like the candied, but AlphaMale is stopping by the brewery later, I'll ask him.

Thanks drew. I appreciate that.

Tomorrow is the coolest day of the weekend, so I'll probably do my MLPA then. Though I just realized that I forgot to put the yeast in the fridge when it arrived. :frank: I hope it's still viable.

Pretty much the opposite here. I stepped up my yeast starter yesterday. Good thing i woke up in the middle of the night to check on it. The airlock was full of krausen and was coming out the top. I quickly sanitized a blow off tube and stuck it in the stopper. That could have been a mess.

I just finished my brew day. I racked my Belgian Strong from primary to secondary. First time I've looked at it as I've had it sitting in my 10 gallon rubbermaid cooler. Nice color to it, can't wait until it is ready! Took a gravity reading, and it is down to 1.016. that is .002 points better than 2 days ago. :frank: Then I brewed up a strange brew. 8lbs of US 2-row, 2 pounds of Polenta (just milled corn). Below is my hop schedule that I used:All Cascade Pellets:2oz FWH2oz 60 min1oz 30 min.5oz 15 min.5oz 5 min1oz at flame outLooks like it is ~85IBU's!I put this on the Wyeast 3787 Trappist Ale Yeast slurry from the stong ale.I will say, it looked freakin nasty as hell going in to the carboy. Dull green in color, just nasty. Had an overwhelming hop aroma. So I guess that is an in your face hopped up Belgian Creme Ale?? Should be interesting. Haven't done an experiment brew in a while. :frank:

Session went great. Regrettably Ironkite had to schlep most of the gear. About 5 hours in my 'on the mend' fractured ankle said 'I'm tired of playing this game" and quit convincingly threatening me with sharp pains. We both made mistakes on our first brewday of the year, but the we covered each other's forgetfulness.

First brew of the year, eh, SF?The WLP830 is blowing through my german pils very nicely. Pitched Saturday morning @ 1.053 and it's down to 1.024 this morning, I'll up the temp for the d-rest shortly. At this rate my fermenter will be free for another batch this weekend. It could be a rare back-to-back weekends of brewing for me. I'm crossing my fingers.

Mashing in on a 5 gal batch of Liquid STupid. Finally. This is my biggest beer to date so im kinda nervous. I went with the fresh ginger root instead of the dried or the candied. Too bad I have to wait about a year to drink it. :frank:

I brewed a 1.096 wee heavy on April 7th for a buddy. He started drinking it on May 24th. It was smooth, no harshness, just a very slight alcoholic warming in the finish. Sure, it'll get better over time, but you can drink big beers a lot sooner than a year if you have good control over your ferment temps.I can't speak for Liquid Stupid as I've never brewed it, but the low and steady ferm temps worked out well for my wee heavy.

Thats good to hear. I had planned on taking a lil taste now and then.... just to check on the progress. :frank:

Here's what I brewed yesterday. I air popped two pounds of popcorn and used a potato masher then handheld mixer to break up with larger parts. I brewed not as much as I wanted. Was going for 20gal but only got one session for 10. Well 8 because I over boiled :frank: but it is tastey and chugging away. I need to get my fermentation box working but it will take money I dont have right now. I have a Sabco fermenter but do not have a good plce to ferment in it until my reach-in can get fixed so I am left w/ using carboys.

Wow, I pulled the carboy out of the cooler it was sitting in to take a peek at it. My first look: :) I couldn't believe how much it cleared up. It was VERY clear and it looked as though pretty much everything fell out to the bottom. So I couldn't resist and took the stopper out of the top to get a good smell and OMG it smelled REALLY good. The hop aroma was awesome, and it had that Belgian scent to it that the Belgian yeast tend to have. This might have turned out pretty darn good! Next up, kegging this SOB. :stabby:

I have to know how this turns out!

We've just started pulling a few pints off the first keg and really pleased with the results. It's extremely light bodied with a hint of corn in the background, similar to what I'd expect from using flaked corn. If the weather would cooperate, this would be a great one for a hot day lounging in the hammock. Details are in the recipe section. The popcorn experiment was fun, but if I did it next time I'd skip the extra work and just use flaked corn.
