Ales vs. lagers.....If you keg and force carb, you can be drinking an ale in 3 weeks no problem.BrewBasserAn experienced homebrewer that directed me in my early days said I quote" how do you expect to make good beer in less than five weeks, when it takes the BMC ( bud-miller-coors) crowd that long?"

I think Alton is good at food but he's no brewing expert for sure and neither are his associates. He probably would have done well to get the guy from the homebrew shop to act as a consultant for the show and subsequent editing. Not to mention that yeast can eat sucrose just fine thank you.I mean the other stuff was just stupid mistakes, nomonclature and such (calling straining your finished wort "sparging" for example), but this time he had the blackboard out and tried to get all scientific, and got it BRUTALLY wrong. The respectometer definately has gone down.BrewBasser

I wonder if it was Marietta Homebrew Supply. It seems like they closed down around that time. When I used to go there, the selection was sometimes lacking, and the shelves too bare, but I have no complaints about the guy who ran the place. He always seemed to give solid advice and good information. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have told someone to boil grains. Some of the Georgia brewers have said before that the LHBS he went to was really terrible, and in fact went out of business relatively soon after the show was produced. (It was from 2002.)So yeah, bad consultants.

Apparently lots. He had an apology/clarification posted on his site at one time.I wonder how many letters he received or still does receive, when the show airs, from people like us...
