Topic pretty much says it all.
Thinking about starting a batch of mead and would like to bottle it in 1.75L corked whiskey bottles to save on cleaning, etc.
Any potential downsides of doing this?

You'll see the bottle and think you're about to get whisky but then it's mead?

A square bottle won't hold much pressure. So long as you are 100% sure it's done fermenting then it's a non issue.

The corks of say Pendleton aren't a #9 if I recall you may need bigger ones.

I have relative who makes several barrels of wine or mead each year. They just put it in 1.75 l screw tops when the time comes to bottle it. They seem to age just fine in there.
