so you think that best malz munich is more different than some other brand of munich compared to best malz pilsner?  they are all kind of shooting for the same ballpark with these types of malt.

Best Munich is different from Mecca Grade Munich or Great Western Munich, for instance.

for sure they are different but they shouldn't be worlds apart either.  a lot of people would struggle to tell some of these apart when it comes down to it.

the fermentation took off nicely on Saturday morning and is still chugging along.  I started this off on the cooler side (63F) and let it naturally rise up to 67F.  now I'm letting it go to 68F.

finished at 1.013.  7.2% ABV.

I'm sorry, but Brulosophy isn't gonna convince me.  do  tasting yourself.  If you can't tell the difference, than I guess it doesn't mater.  But there' as much difference in malt as there is in hops.

I think they shoot for similar but different.  They want to distinguish themselves from each other to get people to buy their product. I can tall the difference between Weyermann and Best.  Many others can  too since you see people express preferences.  I have recently used craft pils malts from Rahr and Crisp. Vastly different.

I don't brew enough to try every malt in a rigorous magnet, and know enough about how we fool ourselves with our olfactory perceptions to not put a lot of stock in what I think I perceive as a difference.

So anyway, I'm interested in hearing what Denny or others who have tasted lots of different malts perceive as best in class examples or things I should try.

gat damn this is good.  I think I like this yeast.  I'm assuming the yeast is a factor but nice tropical fruit smells.

Just pulled a pint of a freshly dry hopped keg and woah. Best tasting beer I've made in a while. Hopefully this doesn't change too much over time.

I'm tempted to just make this beer again with the second mason jar of yeast cake I have. Only problem is I don't think I have enough of the same hops.

I should have used my floating dip tube in primary on this one so maybe I could have picked up a couple more pints

 

eta:  some time I should do a real test of some kind to determine which of my dip tubes (cut vs floating) leaves more behind.  I'm actually not sure.

I far prefer Simpson's GP. An example of the differences.
