I got this for Christmas, it came with the upgrade for the PS5 that's supposed to be released in March.  I'll probably wait for that to get into it.  Did you end up playing it, George?

Been playing this the last few days. It’s taken quite a lot of game time to start figuring out all the ins and outs of the gameplay but i’m getting there. Coming from AC Valhalla the mechanics of fighting on this is much, much worse. The most annoying thing thus far is the preponderance of main battles where the opponent can quickly regenerate all, or most, of their health. That should never be a thing in any game, sofa king annoying.

This is the battle i’m working on now. This youtube guy who makes videos about playing games for a living needed nearly 10 minutes to beat this bitch.

I can't get into it. Same with the tv show - the world just doesn't interest me.

Even on the PS5, reloading recent saves takes forever. I never had a ps3/4 so I didn’t realize how much better the ps5 is on loading. AC Valhalla loads take maybe 5-10 seconds, this game is 30-60 seconds even for just going back a few minutes of gameplay. Extremely annoying.

I just started it on pc. The mechanics seem clunky. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Me too. I could get past it on Cyberpunk because the world is so awesome and interesting. Witcher though, is gray and dour.

Witcher is denser in terms of map population, but more scripted. You can't kill any NPC you want. Lots of cut scenes for dialogue.

Man, i just kinda played it for the sex scenes. And Gwent.

More like an homage.  The master blacksmith in Novigrad, Éibhear Hattori, is modeled after the master swordsmith in Kill Bill, Hattori Hanzo.  Both "retired" swordsmiths who sell dumplings in their retirement and the main character has to convince them to come out of retirement to make them a weapon(s).  Even the cut scene in Witcher mirrors the scene in Kill Bill when Beatrix Kiddo first meets Hanzo and he shows her his stash of never sold swords above his sushi bar but tells her she can't have them, he'll make her a special sword.  In W3, Hattori shows Geralt his weapon stash above his dumpling shop then sends him on a quest to get materials for "special" weapons.

Apparently, Hattori Hanzo from Kill Bill was named after a famous Japanese samurai warrior, as well.

  • His surname and role in the game are referencing Hattori Hanzō, the famous samurai in Sengoku era of Japan, as well as a former master swordsmith and sushi bar owner in the film Kill Bill Vol. 1.
