classic PVC or the new-fangled PVC free stuff (often called ultra barrier)?  curious about the pros/cons.

obvious pro for PVC: cheaper

I changed to EVABarrier Double Wall Tubing this winter and so far I like it. Less O2 permeability and is not as stiff as the ultra stuff. You do need to use John guest fittings so that can raise the price. PVC from Amazon is cheap and works. I keep that around just in case.

I think that is the same or close enough from my quick look.  Much better than the older rigid versions.

Do you find that this material lasts longer before needing to be tossed?

While we are on this topic what procedures do folks use to keep picnic taps clean? I usually push some oxiclean through when a keg kicks and then later disassemble the qd and unscrew the top of the picnic tap. I then soak those in oxiclean if they look like they need it or I just rinse them in hot water, then starsan, then reassemble and use. My picnic taps are pretty much always refrigerated when there is beer in the line.

I have found it last longer and is less likely to stain as well.

For picnic taps I unscrew and place in near boiling water with oxi and then sanitize.  No issues yet.

I like the near boiling water part. Do you do a bunch at once or something?

usually 2.  I use a mason jar and seal it up so I can shake them up in there.

what's the deal with these john guest fittings?  it seems like this type of beer line would be good for my keggerator but the right angle shanks in the tower are metal barbs.

Ha! Well played! I'm actually concerned those adaptors won't fit next to each other in my tower. I might just have to stick with regular beer lines there.

I bet you could get the new lines on teh barbed connector by heating the line and pushing it on.  Replacement next time will be a biatch tho.

so I bought some of this and it seemed fine but today I want to sanitize a line for future use and noticed little brown specs.  My cleaning MO is to immediately rinse the line when the keg kicks and then fill it with hot oxiclean and let it soak until I next need it.  took the best pic I could but the whole line has these little brown flecks in it.
