One I just committed:

I wasn't careful about keeping grain bits out of the boil kettle.  I haven't cared for a long time now.  It doesn't seem to cause any issues as far as I can tell.

Others:

  • no rehydrating dry yeast
  • no oxygenating wort beyond the splashing on the way into the fermentor
  • only two packs of dry lager yeast into 10 gallons of moderate to lower gravity wort

I splash my sparge water into the mash tun.  I just pour it in without being careful.

I squeeze the grain with my kettle lid when it's almost done draining to try to extract all of the liquid (drez shares that sin with me b/c it was his idea :D)

I typically move my sparge water with a pitcher, since I'm batch sparging I am not careful either.

I will often let my tun sit, tilted up at an angle toward the drain while the boil is getting going then drain and add that last quart right at boiling.

same here but I have a smaller kettle from my partial boil days that I use to heat my sparge water.  I usually only do a small sparge with 3-4 gallons for my 10 gallon batch.

I also tilt my mash tun of course.  I wouldn't expect you to do any different

I was curious how that Anvil system was working for you.

Curious why you'd homebrew if you don't drink very much beer. Hope everything is okay!

Oh yeah, fine. Alcohol just messes with my sleep so I don't drink much these days. I can still give away growlers of excess production. Part of the reason for getting the Anvil system was so I could do small batches.
