I don't plan to use it all the time but I'll certainly be using it on this next batch.  I figure if I just use it every few batches on my cold side equipment it will get what starsan might miss.  I actually plan on running it through my fermentor and kegs and then pushing starsan through after to rinse everything out.  bad idea?  should I do something different?  anything a first time iodophore user needs to know?

I've gone to using iodophor most of the time.  I keep some StarSan in a spray bottle for small or last minute sanitizing.  I don't understand why you'd want to rinse with StarSan when iodophor is no rinse.

Not as far as I know, but I'll check with my sources.  Do you leave the iodophor in them, or wet them down and drain it out?

I would think if you drained out the iodophore and sealed the corny = very good to go.  The stuff evaporates/dries pdq.

is there any issue with minor contact between starsan and iodophore?  I'll probably still use a spray bottle of starsan and I like to dunk some keg components in starsan while reassembling but I plan to use iodophore in the keg, push through the dip tube, etc.

I haven't experienced any problems

is this the typical color when properly diluted?  I did about 7.4mL in 2.5 gallons.

i was surprised by the amount of staining on the bucket.  it sort of rinsed out.

well hopefully I didn't mix it too strong.  I also just realized something stupid I did.  I put the yeast in the starter vessel before the wort so hopefully the iodophore residue didn't kill/maim my yeast .  ugh.

I added probably 3/4 of the water, put in the iodophor and then topped it off.

so that yeast starter took off just fine by the way.  signs of life within about 6 hours.  seems to be going just like all of my other 007 starters have in the past.

bringing this back just to keep iodophor related questions together...

 

when you guys use iodophor to sanitize your kegs/fermentors do you completely fill them?  I do not b/c my fementor is big and I wouldn't want to move around that much sanitizer.  when I used starsan I would just put in a couple of gallons and slosh it around really good in the vessel a couple of times and at some point soon after dump it out and call it good.  can I do the same thing with iodophor because I noticed that it needs "full contact" for 2 minutes.  what's the deal?

My typical procedure, say, for a carboy is to fill about 1-2 gallons of Iodophor solution into the carboy, swirl to contact everything for about 30 seconds, dump the solution, then place on a rack to drip dry.  The time spent drying contributes to the "wet time" contact.
