Wow at 1.038 to 1.013 that should make for a really nice easy drinking mild for sure. Hope it turns out well for you. The fermentation times sounds pretty quickly but its a pretty low gravity beer as well. All in all sounds like it turned out well. I agree with you that the smell of the mash is awesome. I love that and the smell of the wort after hops have been added. Whats up next? Back to All Grain?

Yeah, it's not a real high gravity beer, but it still dropped pretty fast. I've been on a stretch of batches with WLP001 and it's been very consistently averaging a little less than 10 points per day. This one was a little more than 10 points per day. It took a little longer to get going, too, because i chilled the wort a little more than I wanted to.Yeah, I probably won't be doing an extract batch again for a while. Next up is a coffee brown ale, then a winter warmer. After that I'm going to do a stretch of lagers with 830/833/838 and some APA/IPA/IIPAs. Although, any of this can change at a moments notice.

Early returns on the extract batch are not so good. It just has a weird unexpected flavor to it. I don't know about a 'twang', but it's not too great right now. I'm going to up the carbonation a little and let it age for a few weeks, see where it goes.
