I've been waiting for a craft brew version of Negra Modelo forever, i had given up hope but it has now arrived.  This is exactly what I wanted from a craft version of a Mexican Dark Lager.  I've always said I wanted a Negro Modelo with the character/flavors turned up by about 10%.  It seems Commonwealth Brewing out of Virgnia Beach, VA felt the same way.

Judging it against some nebulous idea of a "perfect" beer, I'd probably give it a 4.1874 out of 5, but there is nothing obvious about this beer I would change if I were to brew it myself.  Granted, I haven't had the Mayfair Court Hacienda Lager, but this is pretty good.  :)

ETA:  I thought of one thing.  It could use a bit more carbonation.

Most of the Mexican-inspired lagers I make have that same "let's bump it up a little bit" mentality.  I like my Dos Equis Amber, Indio, Negra Modelo, Victoria, etc. but they just need a little boost, primarily in the hops department.  My Bordertown Dark Lager is what I make when I want something on tap that resembles Negra Modelo.  The White Labs 940 yeast is what I use when I want to make anything "Mexican".
