Using teflon tape on the threads wouldn't do anything if there was a leak at the gasket between the reg and tank. The nut on the regulator side is a swivel nut, so the gas would just leak through the gap between the stem and the swivel nut.I had the same problem when I started. My regs take a little plastic or cardboard-like washer that fits into the coupler. But I think I failed to tighten the connection hard enough and I leaked 5lbs of Co2 in a few days, just like you did. Someone mentioned to use plumbers tape on the threads (which I do) but someone else mentioned that this should not be necessary if everything is tightened properly. I once cranked down on the reg nut so hard that I broke it! No joke. I had to take it to my LHBS where the owner repaired it while telling me to lay off the 'roids. It's all a learning experience, Amigo. Cheers and welcome back to draft
