I made one in the beginning of the summer. used the ultra-ferm in the mash; i want to use that stuff in the mash of a barleywine, and see how it goes.  true to the description, i was bone dry and hoppy as all get out. Actually, really enjoyed it.  malt bill was 2-row and carapils. Used WLP001. the hop schedule was a dash of Horizon for bittering, a blend of Jerrlyo, Citra, Mosaic at 5 minutes, W/P of Jerrlyo, Citra, Mosaic, Bio-Transformation of Citra, El Dardo.

So, I guess these were a real fad.  I have not seen any around for a while.

Yeah.  Interesting, could be good, flash in the pan

do all of them have kind of a weirdness about them?  if yes is it due to the amylase?  I dunno - I'm not sure if it's something that's present or missing in the example I had.

I had a Anderson Valley one and I gotta say it was very good too.  But again, it wasn't much different from a well made IPA.

Agreed here. I’ve had a bunch of them and I never have really dug it. I’m particular with my hoppy styles. I need the right balance of hops, body, and alcohol. Otherwise I physically have a hard time drinking it.

I guess it was probably just devoid of malt flavor of any appreciable kind.
