Also - how heavy do hop plants typically get? I'm just trying to determine how much structure I need to support these things...First time hop grower here. I'll probably be at the big orange home store today and was thinking maybe I'd look for some twine for hops. Anything I should avoid or look for?

Holy crap! I wasn't expecting the plant to get that heavy! They sell 1/4" Sisal rope for about $5 / 100ft which i have used for both years, but there are cheaper places if needing bulk - like erigging and Harbor FreightI have also successfully used the waxed binding twine- much thinner but it did work just fineas for weight - year one , not much , year two 20-30lbs easily per bine, wind and rain loading is more the issue than the dry loading.

Roger that.Hops can grow on whatever. They won't care. What is important is the ease of use for the grower.BrewBasser
