So not exactly "to style". Sorry bjcp.

I don't have my brewing spreadsheet in front of me so this won't have exact numbers for everything.

9.0lbs best malz Pilsen malt
9.0lbs best malz Vienna malt
0.5lbs carapils/carapils copper

I know I have a little carapils left but probably not half a pound. I'm figuring I'll make up the difference with carapils copper.

Mash at 151f for 60 mins. No sparge style.

I'll probably use a combo of lactic acid and gypsum with a lesser amount of cacl to adjust the mash pH. Not sure if this is a beer where I should really try to keep the sulfate and chloride down or not.

30 min boil.
Probably all hallertau here for a total ibu of about 40.

Some at 30 mins
2oz at 5 mins
4oz at 0 mins

No dry hop on this one.

Ferment on Omega Bayern.

I would drink that. I did a 50/50 pils /Vienna beer before and remembered it being enjoyable. I would maybe mash a touch lower to really dry it out. I like a dry, crisp beer for the summer.

Sulfate 70-75
Chloride 30-40

Personal preference but that's what I like for these beers

Nice easy recipe for nice easy drinking. Being a big Vienna fan, you can't go wrong.

so I probably only have about 1-2 oz of carafoam/carapils.  is carapils copper okay for something like this or will it contribute too much flavor?  maybe I should just go to the LHBS and acquire some carapils?

CP Copper will work but may give you a bit more color than you want.  What about some flaked oats instead?

Or just add more Pils and Vienna. IME, a half pound of carapils will be indistinguishable in a 10 gallon batch.

I'm going to guess you have read about it, but, have you ever experienced darkening of lighter beers when oats are used? I have not ( for the record) just read about it several times now.

Good point on the amount being very low. Maybe I'll just top off with the copper still. I don't mind a little extra golden color.

I have not experienced it but have read about it like you have. I have to assume it is related to oxidation and how quickly it happens in those hazy IPAs with a good chunk of oats.

so one problem I had not planned on was with the short boil I need to add A LOT of hallertau to hit 40 IBUs.  I may stretch out the boil on this one to hit my IBUs.

I don't have any magnum for clean bitterness.

I do have nugget but not sure if that is clean enough.

Other options are amarillo, palisade and galena.  I very rarely want high IBUs that are also somewhat devoid of hop character.

Lol... I gave you 2 pounds! Nothing wrong with a charge of magnum at 30 to hit the ibu.

I'm more worried that it will cause a plant derived flavor because of the volume of hops I'll have to use. Am I worrying about nothing?

OUCH!! I would use the nugget or just go with a 60 minute boil in that case.

Well, really I would just get a # of high alpha and call it good.

Yeah, I'm thinking 45 with a little nugget mixed in won't be too crazy.
