For my first full year of brewing, I was using Irish Moss to clarify. But I brewed my Irish Red a few weeks back and dropped in two Whirlfloc tablets with 15 mins to go in the boil. I cracked my first bottle last evening of this delicious brew and couldn't believe how crystal clear is was! My best looking beer ever! Thanks Whirlfloc!

I'm with you, I love that stuff. I've never used other clarifying agents like gelatin and most of my beers come out crystal clear.

Unless you're doing a mega batch, probably only need one though. Don't want to suck too much out.It is great stuff. Works well and convenient.

I'm going to have to try this stuff. Do you not use any Irish Moss?

"A blend of Irish Moss and purified Kappa carrageenan that encourages the precipitation of haze causing materials such as proteins and Beta glucans. Prepared in a quick dissolving, highly soluble tablet form. Almost everyone who tries Whirlfloc tablets prefer them to regular Irish Moss."From product description.

I've read many times that the dosage is 1/2 tab for 5 gals. I got sick of cutting them in half, so I bought a jar of Super Moss. Same concept, I just use a measuring spoon. I think 5 star makes it.

Whirlfloc is da bomb. On the beers that I've forgotten to add it to I can definitely see a difference in the clarity. As far as dosage goes, I only use one tablet per 10 gallons and add it with about 5 minutes left in the boil.

I have used the tablets and think they are fine. I don't see any difference between them and IMother than the ease of use. A friend gave me a bag of IM a while back and I'm using it to getrid of it. I must say, it works fine for me. I rehydrate it before using.

that seems to be the key with the regular Irish Moss. Before i satrted hangin out with you all , i had no idea that it was supposed to be done. the LHBS didn't either.

I have always used IM and have had fantastic results with just a pour into the cup of my hand, ~2tbl spoons for 10 gallons. But I have the same problem DJ= you have to remember to throw it in!! Brewday timer on the laptop has finally solved that problem.https://www.beerbelliesbrew.com/

I seem to get better results rehydrating IM than without.

OK, so I'll ask... what's the procedure for rehydrating it?

Just add to a little hot water and make "tea" out of it ... I typically let it steep for about 10 minutes before I throw it in. It becomes slimy as hell when it goes into the hot water.

I haven't found Whirlfloc to work any better than IM, but I keep using it anyway!
