I wrap the burner with heavy duty tin foil to keep the heat under the kettle. I'm thinking about covering the wood around and under the burner with something to shield it from the heat.
New project

FTFY.
Nice stand, BTW.
Looks a lot like what I used to have my system on. It worked fine except for the time it caught on fire because the burner was too close to one of the supports. I used to use the old 175,000 btu jet burner which wasted an absolute ass-ton of heat around the side of the kettle, I'd go through half a tank trying to boil outside in the winter. I'm sure it won't be an issue with the newer burners.
This paints a very scary yet somehow cartoon like picture. Kidding aside glad you are okay.

I wrapped the supports in foil and moved the kettle a few inches further away. It was fine after that. Never more than warm to the touch.
That was one of two times that frame almost went up in flames. The other time was when the RIMS dry fired while a was in the house. That was a real mess.

The burn unit is one of the more horrible places known to man. I would avoid it at all costs.

I plan to do everything in my power to do so.

I used a couple old end tables as my brew stand for a bunch of years. Never caught fire until we retired them and thew them on a bon fire.

Last night I stained and applied the first coat of poly to the decking for the top and middle tear.

Just finished her up. I put a 1x2 border around the top level to make sure the burner never slides off.

Looks good. What will get brewed on it first?
As a side note an aunt of mine won a very pricey bottle of red from that Far Niente and shared it with us. It was unbelievably good.
