So as I am typing this tonight I am chilling the Oatmeal Stout that I brewed this evening. I was just coming inside to get my mason jar of saved fresh slurry of Wyeast 1084. On tuesday I transferred off an Irish Red and saved the slurry for tonight's beer. I decided then that I would set the jar on the counter and let it sit till tonight (thinking I didn't wanna chill it down then warm it up to pitch. Anyways I grabbed the jar and there is maybe a half inch of liquid above the yeast cake but on top of that sure enough is mold growing. Darn it. So figuring what I was going to do I have US-05 on hand for fermentation emergencies but instead I checked my saved yeast slurries and I have a nice jar of Denny's Fav 50. Thank goodness for saved yeast slurries. It looks like the 1084 is heading to the trash and Denny's is heading for this Oatmeal Stout I brewed. Yikes not what I have planned but I am happy with the recovery. I felt compelled to share with everyone. Gotta love those unexpected beer events.

Nice save. It's pretty crazy that mold grew up on slurry you pulled out of the fermenter 2 days ago. Wicked pissah!

Yes I could not believe it to be honest. It was on the liquid that was over the slurry. Trust me I will make sure to keep all future slurries chilled to say the least.
