I think I have the worst LHBS ever. Expired yeast, stale $2.35/lb grain, $9.99 liquid yeast--better check the date on it. Last time I asked(maybe 4yrs ago) Breiss 2-row sack price was $76.Hops stored in hard plastic non-airtight jars in a glass cooler in the doorway sun with the yeast. I once asked if they had any Chinook. Guy went in the back and brought out some that looked like dry white dog turds. If I was a new brewer I would have ruined a batch with them.On top of it the owner is a butthole.

we have two LHBS here in Spokane, one is where I learned to brew, then had to relearn better ways later, they are a bit overpriced and a little snobbish, but aren't all that bad, the other I frequent most, is competitively priced, very friendly, excellent service, without condescension.  I buy bulk 2-row from them and specialty grains as needed, if I can't get it there I will order from the net.

Wish I had a good one. I'm fine to pay a little more but mine just flat out sucks. Strictly mail order for me.

Hmm, that's funny but it's not funny. My LHBS used to be similar. I once asked for Vienna. This is a staple of brewing and the guy said, "Ha! No one uses that anymore". I asked if they sold stirplates and the guy said, "You don't need a stirplate!" and once when I asked for honey malt, the guy just stared at me. He had no idea. I used to ask the completely stoned girl that worked there, "What dry yeast do you have?" and she would always say the same thing... MUTTONS! LOL. This place has come a long way to the point that they carry hops and grains that I have never heard of. That's a good turnaround.

Mine seems to be on the downward spiral. My brewing buddy assisted a guy w/ an Irish ale recently, tasted the raw grain from there (supposed to be MO) said it tasted like cardboard. He thinks they might be selling Breiss at MO price.Pretty much the last time I went in I they had 1oz zipper bags labeled 'yeast energizer" and "yeast nutrient"---no other writing on them. Asked the owner what the difference in the two was. "One is nutrient, the other is energizer!"Thanks asshole, that's why you have no business.
