Price US-05 at $5.40ea.   Whelp, easy decision to just order some from my buddies store instead.  Thanks for saving me the drive.

Seriously that's some solid markup, I remember when the stuff was <$2, as is buddy is pricing at $3.  The price difference alone covered shipping, went ahead and added some more stuff to the cart.

Anyone ever messed around with Zatarain's root beer extract?  I picked some up for the wife's soda stream.

I don't go to the LHBS to save money. I go to help keep them in business so they'll be around when I'm in a pinch.

Sadly at times I have more grain and hops on hand at my house than the LHBS does!

I can't see how any of them stay in business. You can't compete on price with the big online guys, though everyone expects you to have an up-to-date web presence. And heaven forbid you charge $5.40 for yeast that's $4.00 online :P

I haven't ordered online, since our LHBS opened.  And I definitely spend more there.  Not the markup in the OP, but it's slightly pricier than norther brewer.  I want that store to succeed.

I used it to make 4 gallons of root beer for the kids in the neighborhood. Put it in a corney and force carbed. It turned out really well and we made a ton of Root Beer Floats.

However, everything that came out of that keg afterward tasted like root beer. We had root beer flavored IPAs, root beer flavored saisons, root beer flavored wheat beers. It was horrible. I eventually had to replace all of the rubber o-rings in the keg and faucet.

Since then I now have a dedicated root beer keg with a cobra tap that doesn't get used for anything else.

I used the Zataran's root beer.  Mixed it up with a big box of the pink stuff, so YMMV, but I thought it was quite good.

It was $3 and it was a buddies store so I'm more apt to want to support HIM long term.  I'll hit a local store for convenience but not when they mark everything up that far.

If you're force carbing in a keg and counter-pressure filling it will still screw up the keg.  Contact time to perma-rootbeer is very short.

I'm not.  This is for her soda stream, in those bottles.  Wasn't planning to have anything in my kegging stuff.

$2.99 https://www.ritebrew...ct-p/830468.htm

I also grabbed this mangrove jack cider yeast, anyone ever tried it?  https://www.ritebrew...ct-p/830102.htm

The homebrew shops here are all also hydroponics shops. That's how they stay open.
