Just opened the first of a six pack of these, and I have to say I'm really enjoying it.Very smooth, clean, and malty with just a bit of residual sweetness balanced with a mellow bitterness that does mark the beer as different from the average macro offering. That said, its really unfortunate that they are marketing it as a doppel when it fits the definition of a traditional bock so well! I guess what it comes down to is that a real dopplebock might alienate the pseudo-good-beer-drinker or newbie that would shell out extra to try something new and believes beer marketing ploys. Personally I think Shiner bock isn't really a bock-just in terms of vital stats its more of a dark NA lager than anything else. I really think they should get their terminology down. P.S. on the back of the bottle, they claim the beer is made in the "classic german 'stark' style" Any guesses on what that is?
