I was putting in a new light fixture yesterday, and in the process shut off the wrong breaker in the breaker box. This killed the power in the beer cooler room. After that, I noticed the temp controller showing an E2 error code.Per the MFR instructions, I reset the program. It will run for about 30 seconds, than right back to the E2 readout.I read a message board hit saying to try Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.Still not working. Beyond that, it sounds like the memory is fried on the unit, and the only solution is replacement. So, here's a reminder to unplug your temp controller, before you go shutting off breakers. It's only a $70 screw up. :rolf:

Is it a two stage controller? Mine did the same thing about a week ago and I noticed that it was on my heater stage that was giving me trouble because it would make the differential around 30F and that was giving it the E2 code. I simply lowered the heater stage temperature to 2F with a 2F differential and I haven't had a problem with the cooling stage at all. The E2 code seems to be a common problem with the Ranco controller, so I'm pretty sure I will buy a johnson controller when this ones kicks the bucket!

Single stage. I have been really happy with it so far, and couldn't find any real reviews to suggest one brand over the other. So, I bought the same one again. I hope that doesn't turn out to be a mistake.

I have been really happy with mine, too. It was not until I had the E2 error code and started doing some research did I find out that it seems to be pretty common. They use the Ranco controller on a lot of different applications, so you think there would be a better customer support foundation with the company. Also, you would think that it would be pretty easy to simply find a replacement part instead of replacing an entire controller. Before I purchased the two stage Ranco, I had an analog johnson controller for several years without a single problem, and that is why I stated I would buy a johnson controller. Hell, the digital ones could have the same problems as the Ranco! Also, I wouldn't throw away the old controller, maybe you can get the thing working again!

Have two Ranco's and now two Love Controllers, I prefer the Love's and they were cheaper too at only $49, they offer a defrost cycle on the menu which works well with the aircon controlled cold room.Nothing wrong with the Ranco's, and not yet had any issues. They can also be had a lot cheaper than $70.... ebay has some for under $60

That was $70 after I added 2 day shipping. So, it was a good price. I can't complain about that. And, last night, my old one started working again. So, now it seems like I have 2 as well.

I have had the worst luck with Johnson controls digital. After about a year of intermittant use I have had 2 BURN out. The last one was not even engaged. It was only reading temp and it burnt.I keep em dry. I know for a fact I am not overloading them. Bad batches maybe???I finally moved to using Ranco's and no problems yet after 18 months.C.B
