I know some of you guys are big glass heads like me.  A shaker pint will not make due.  I roll in circles IRL where these things get debated.  Pretty much universally these are the two competitors.

Spiegelau Beer Snifter

vs.

I own them both and like them pretty equally overall.  If I had to choose, I might pick the Spiegelau because of the thin glass and the way it feels on my mouth.  I also like the shorter stem.  That being said, I am drinking a Trader Joe's 2013 vintage ale out of my Teku.  You can't really go wrong with either, IMO.

I have the Spiegelau you pictured. I drink everything from either it or a nonic. I am not a glass head but the Spiegelau is definitely my favorite. Its a really nice glass.

I've was never a glass snob. As long as the glass is full, I'm happy.

I drink most of my stuff out of the pint glasses that you often get guinness in.  it's sort of an altered shaker glass.  i'm not too fancy about this stuff.  belgians i have a couple of ommegang glasses for that.

I have tons of different types. I usually find that the tulip pint is my go to. Easy to grasp, harder to spill, still get some aroma help. Tulip would be my next favorite.

The problem I find with most tulip shaped glasses is that they don't have the capacity. Usually a 10-12 oz pour at most. If I am in the mood for a pint at my house, I have to get something bigger that doesn't have the aroma holding shape.

The willibecher is a nice one too. A 20oz glass will hold a true pint and holds aroma well.

What is a nonic?

See Schwanz pic above. British imperial pint glass is the other name I have heard it called.

I guess the glass I usually use is kind of a tulip pint glass but with the bulge near the top.  it's not exactly a nonic I don't think.

edit:  nm - it's a nonic.

Nonic for English beers, the tulip pint for various beers, I use bechers a lot and various pilsner glasses as well as the standard straight-sided pint glass. I don't use a lot of stemmed glasses or wheat beer glasses and I rarely use a handled mug unless it's a German stein kind of thing. I do have kolsch and alt glasses too. I also have some that are not on that chart, like this...Posted Image

I would challenge you to do a glassware side by side with either of the glasses I mentioned in the OP and your regular glass.  I do not exaggerate when I say you will be amazed.  It is like HD tv vs reg or DVD vs VHS.

That's basically a tulip pint.

Seems so. This one is 20 ounces and has a more exaggerated shape to it.

my ommegang glasses are a similar shape to the first one you posted.  there is a difference for sure but sometimes I don't like the difference.  it depends on the beer.  some beers I like to really let them breath and not let everything get caught up inside.  but for fun I'll do your comparison sometime.

so the tulip type glass has more aroma for sure on the pale ale I just poured.  once it's in my mouth on it's way to my stomach the difference goes away.  it's a neat experiment.  maybe I'll start using it more often.  the shape is pretty close to the first one posted but slightly taller/narrower.  not by a lot but slightly.

I should add that a crystal clear beer in that Spiegelau glass is a thing of absolute beauty.

Yeah.  I hoard beer unique beer glass.  I have more than a hundred easily.  It is pretty intense how each glass 'shapes' the drinking experience on all fronts.  They all have their own merits, there are some that you always go to, and want to drink your cellar chestnuts out of.  Those two in the OP are pretty tits.

usually try to match the glass to the bier... Guiness glass for Guiness, chalices of various designs for the Belgians: Chimay, Orval, etc. You get the idea...
