A friend of mine whose wife is German brought me back a bottle from a recent trip over there. I saved it in my fridge for a couple of weeks but I finally broke down and drank it this past weekend. I'm not sure I have the vocabulary to adequately do justice to this beer. It was a masterpiece as sublime as The Mona Lisa. The aroma was fresh and tart; the flavor complex with lemon, pear and apple notes. Every tiny sip was pure joy. The bars in heaven must serve this stuff. And if they don't...I'm not going.

Sounds absolutely sublime. Do you know if this can be found in the US at all?

As far as I know, it's not available here.

Evidently it is. I believe it is the only remaining Berliner Weisse still being made in Germany.

I think I've seen it lately. Very nice beer. Assertively tart and effervescent.

Another one to look for and taste is Bayerischer Bahnhof Gose. Similar to a Berliner Weise, but sweeter due to the sodium chloride addition. It does not taste salty...just sweeter.  Again, a very nice beer.

I used to be able to get Kindl Weisse when I lived in New York... for $16 for a 4-pack.  Haven't seen it here in Northern Colorado, ever. :(

I think they will get more common before too long.

Only one I have seen around here is the New Glarus seasonal release the last two summers. It's very nice but honestly I've only had a few others to compare it to.

Another one I recently had was Fierce from Off Color Brewing in Chicago which I really liked. It was loaded with all kinds of complexity behind the tartness.

Bear republic had one on draft that I LOVED, but no way of getting it up here. I drank the hell out of it when I was there because I knew it wasn't going to come back around again

Crabtree makes one that I thought was pretty good until I tried the Kindl. Pikes Peak made one last year that was nowhere close.

I used to frequent the Kindl brewery quite a bit in the 80's while stationed in Berlin. I used to get a case (24) for about $5! Those were the days...

Yeah, now you are going to pay double that in the states for a 4 pack and its only around a 3?? percent beer. Still enjoy it though.
