A New Start Community BrewPeople have their pasts, and it's part of what makes them who they are. Beers are in many ways the same way. Our first community brew will start with the past, with the traditional brewing styles. It won't stay there, as we add our own twist to an old formula.I hope to make this as inclusive and communal as possible, so we'll have several versions. Here are my goals:
[*]Recipe for extract, partial mash, and all-grain.[*]At least a regular and imperial version, hopefully a low-gravity version as well.[*]Something everyone can be proud of.[/list]Please discuss these options! I retain the right to break ties, and to give bonus votes in my head to very well-thought out reasons why a particular base style should be used.(final note: I chose the name A New Start, instead of some negatively-based names in the original thread, as I think it goes more for what we want in this forum - not to dwell on past wrongs, but to push forward with the best brewing board on the web).

Sounds good. I voted for wheat, but only because I feel like my wheat beers could use some work, and I figure this would be an excellent learning opportunity. Also, summer's coming, and wheat beers are good in the summer.

I voted Amber since I feel it is a neglected style and I kind of feel sorry for it. There is so much that we can do to push this style forward IMO.

I picked Mild/Brown and Wheat. The summer months will be upon us soon so I figured a refreshing/mid to low level ABV session beer would hit the spot during this upcomming warm months.

You mean Palo Santo? We could brew my Bite Me Sam Palo Santo Russian Imperial Stout. But that would probably get John (Sam's wood supplier) in dutch. That is unless we can find another supplier of Palo Santo wood.FWIW dept, John even says I kick Sam's ass on this one.Several guys voted it best beer of the night at Max's rare and obscure beer night. And I was sipping on a JW Lee's in Calavado Cask at the time, my fave.I had to agree. Sam's wasn't even close. But you had better like wood in your beer.Imagine a spiced rose nose.

I chose a wheat as well. But it was a toss up between the wheat and a Belgian.

I voted for bitter/pale/IPA, but thinking about it I haven't been happy with my attempts at wheats so far. It could lie solely with my choice of yeast though as I've only used WB06. I'm down for whatever.

Since Wheat and IPA seem to have lots of interest, how about a wheat-heavy IPA? ~60% wheat, the rest . . . well, getting ahead of myself here.
