I like Pliny The Elder but I think the scarcity adds a bit to the hype.  I love Lagunita Sucks, but I am surprise that Firestone didn't make the top ten.

I have had all 10.  They would not all be in my top 10 list.  I like Blind pig over Pliny and I do not think Hopslam is that good.  I could go on but I think everyone's top 10 would be different.

I do not think it is that scarce .. it is the grandfather though, the original.

brew your own up John!

Although, I would lower the c45 to 2%, sub out the 90 minute STC with extract and some Amarillo to get the IBUs and you will be closer to the current Pliny.

I just hate subjective lists like that. IMO it has little to no validity.

I have to agree with you.  I only scrolled down to see the list but It seems they just took a BA/RB top ten list and ran with it.  I mean seriously, what kind of top 10 lest does not have a sour or 7 on there ...

8 IPAs/DIPAs and 2 Imperial- strength Stouts? What utter BS! We've become as bad as wine drinkers. Variety is the spice of life, folks.

I started to write something similar in my first reply but had not had enough coffee to lay it out as eloquent as you did:)

I do love both IPAs and stouts but I think there are plenty of other beers out there that get overlooked.

It's bunk. Good beers on there, yes. Some of the best beers, yes. THE best beers hands down, no. Guy locally makes a Gose that is just absolutely phenomenal. It deserves to be on that list, but it's obscure and from a tiny brewery no one has heard of. No way that he gets recognition nationally. One of the best commercial beers in the country though? Absolutely. Masturbation is all that list is. If my company were on it though, I'd be tickled pink because that's some of the best advertising you can get.

You guys know that I would agree with all of that because IPAs and IIPAs are not what I brew. This was supposedly a poll by homebrewers and craft beer lovers and it ALWAYS seems like the big ABV or big IBU beers come out on top which I know does not really represent us. No alts? No festbiers? No viennas? No Red Ales, ESBs, Blondes, Kolsch, standard Pale Ales made that list? Come on.

Honestly they should do it by style, but that would be a cluster *$#$W%$ in a half.

I'd love something like that, but it wouldn't have to be an exhaustive inclusion of every sub-style.

Exactly. It would be fun to do, but so many people haven't had a lot of the styles so it would be tough to get decent results.

Actually, apps like untapped would be a better rating tool. Votes would only count for beers you have had.

Still not much variety.  Rare #1 ... poor choice

I need to get tasting, there are 2 on that list I have not had :)

I think it's a better demographic than the zymurgy list. Most of those have at least 2000 reviews.

Unfortunately it is still a lost of brewery only of very hard to get beers.  I am not sure I would classify them as the best beers but I could be splitting hairs.

Is the rare the key word there? Drez left me a stout with very close to the same name.
