A friend of mine just brought me a bunch of fresh Cascade hops. I was wondering if i could use these in a batch of beer withoug drying them out. How much do I use? Are there conversion formulas to figure out how much compared to dry hops? Any other things i need to know? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I do not have any formulas, but from my own experience, they are not as "hoppy" as dry hops and I ended up using more than I thought I would.That being said, the brew had a nice "grassy" sort of hop that I really enjoyed.Experiment !Cheers,MILF Man

You'll definitely need to use more hops. The hops used normally are dried, thus less weight. I forget how much they lose during the drying process, but I do remember it being a pretty good weight lost after drying

Pull a samples to taste and smell at 30 minutes and 15 minutes. The wort well be sweet but you should get some idea if more hops are need and little longer boil time.

You're gonna want to shovel them in. Fresh hops weigh a ton more than dry hops, so you will think your adding a lot when you're not.If your brewkettle isn't covered in wet hops when you toss them in, you're doing it wrong.BrewBasser

I keep seeing the number 6x the weight being thrown around so when the time comes that's essentially how I'm going to figure how much hops I have. I plan to pick my hops and put them all into 1 beer.

FWIW, when I've made 5 gal. batches of a fresh hop beer in a 15.5 gal. kettle, the kettle has been full to the top with hops.

holy smokes! thats a lot of hops. I think ill just let them dry then, I dont think i have enough of them. This was his first harvest, he says there is about 2x more still on the vine that he didnt pick yet.
