I've been experimenting a bit with hops, but not much. We like the German hops, and I'm liking willamette and some of the British hops. I just harvested about 2 gallons of Zeus hops from my first year plants. Can anyone tell me what these are like? They smell really nice. Obviously my next beer will be using Zeus.I'll be getting some Centenial and Cascades as well this year. I think another week or so until I start that harvest.

They are very similar to Columbus, a citrusy and high AA%, not sure what your homegrown may yield but the commercial grown is usually 15-17%. I have used it to bitter DIPAs before and have been very happy.

I've used Zeus alot this year in my American style hoppy beers. One thing I've found is they are great hops for KO and dry additions. They add a nice resiny finish that you don't get from the C hops.Mashman

Actually, they are the same as Columbus. I asked Ralph Olson of Hop Union about it and he said DNA analysis proved they were identical.

And Tomahawk, thus they are called the "CTZ" hops.

Thanks everyone. I don't have time to brew right now, but come November, I'll be able to brew and enjoy drinking it. I can't drink any beer at the moment either because of health issues. But I think in another couple of months everything will work out and I'll be able to enjoy my fresh harvested hops and my beer. I'm looking forward to it.

When you get around to brewing this is a great DIPA recipe of mine with Zeus and Amarillo if you have the Amarillo to complete the hop bill
