I haven't had time to make my press yet and the Whitney Crabs are ripe and perfect. Picked a couple bushels of them this morning. I have read that you can freeze apples that are going to be squeezed. Has anyone done this? Is there anything to it other than just sticking them in the freezer and waiting until the press and the September/October apples are ready too?

I've never heard of freezing apples for storage, I don't know if that would work or not. The only reliable storage method I know is in a root cellar.

as long as you are going to juice them immediately upon thawing, I would think it would be fine

From what I have read it will work and in fact it will alleviate the need for a grinder. They must be pressed as soon as they thaw. I am lucky enough to have the freezer space right now. I suspect freezer space is the reason most people don't do this.
