I was reading a bit on this strain and am looking for some experienced input.  It says it imparts a fruity white wine character and I was wondering if anyone could agree, disagree, comment, sugges, share how it was used etc.....

Cheers, Mike

I made a wheat with NS earlier this year.  50% 2-row and 50% wheat.  I used 35 IBU of Apollo for bittering and then 2oz of NS in the whirlpool.  When I first tapped the beer it was not one of my favorites and I left it alone for 2-3 weeks.  After that time it was awesome and I really need to brew that again before summer goes away.  I have found that my experiance with the Australian and New Zeland hops is they take a bit of conditioning time in the keg to come around to full potential.  I do get a white wine/chardonnay characteristic from it, light and very fruity.

I also just used NS and Galaxy to dry hop an IPA in the keg.  The nose on that beer is amazing.

Give the Nelson a go for sure.

Thanks man.  My mind's telling me to get some and use it in a Saison.  That is could be a nice compliment to the Dupont strain; 3724 or 565.

I've done a single hop Nelson IPA, 66-70 IBU.  Nice wine like character and no harsh bitterness

I have a pound coming my way.  Sounds pretty versatile.

Word of caution. Use NS and Galaxy with a light hand. If you dont you will get pure dank and those wonderful flavors you describe will never happen.

I would also add to this that using them late or as a DH is the best use for them, IMO.

THIS.  I made a single hop brew with just Nelson and I couldn't drink it.  To me it tasted sour (and no, the beer wasn't infected)

Hines, how much did you add and when?  To what type of beer and size malt bill?

I'm picking up a big vibe on using this stuff for finish.  Maybe a spice hop on the front end and a little NS on the 'way' back end.

Did mine at 68 IBU front end only & 1.5 oz dry hop.  Hop shined thru, not harsh.

Have to say I've given some thought to trying this one.  Way outside the box, but definitely Kiwi inspired.

Kev, you're amazing.  I saw this a few weeks (months?) ago and for a split second, thought it might be something to try then discarded the notion.  But it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the "sale" on Nelson Suavin at another site today.  As mentioned, I have a pound coming :)

...and where is said "sale" if you don't mind?

Weak link in that recipe would be the Alexander's concentrate.  I've bought that stuff to use in mead and it was oxidized.

Well, the price doesn't constitute a sale to me but I got them anyway.  I've ordered from the before and they provide pretty expedient service.

Hops Shack has them for $25/lb. (down from $30).
