That's a great idea. Now, will there be varietal honeys based on what part of town they come from? Chinatown honey, Village honey, Upper West Side honey.

Anything that can help compensate for losing half of domestic production is a good thing I suppose.

Anything that can help compensate for losing half of domestic production is a good thing I suppose. 

 

I know people in the local beekeeping club who say that commercial colony collapse disorder problems are the result of a monoculture, just one type of southern bee that was vulnerable to a certain set of environmental conditions.  They are trying to cross honeybees with some local bees to get a more cold-tolerant honeybee that could compete with the existing commercial honeybee breeds.
