Ain't no sorrow here in Wisconsin.  We just enjoy alcohol, and I believe we have more bars per square mile than anywhere else on earth.  Heck... I have 3 bars less than one block away from my house... I promise you that is NOT an exaggeration!  Just a common thing living in downtown small-town Wisconsin.  And Crabby Bill's just a few buildings away from me has ~30 craft beers in bottles and 5 craft beers on tap at all times.  No Bud or Miller there neither!  I feel so lucky.

Now in the Dakotas and big chunks of Montana, there truly is NOTHING to do but drink.  I haven't been to NH so I can't speak to the culture out there, but I've always wanted to pay a visit.

If NH is anything like Vermont, I salute you.  I was in Burlington and other spots in Vermont and the beer culture was awesome.  I'm thinking NH is right up there.  Only 'drunker'.

we have a decent number of nanobreweries.  even the worst bars carry sam adams and harpoon so i guess there is that.  i'd say portsmouth is pretty similar to burlington in terms of beer culture and is just a fun town in general.  manchester has some decent beer bars and a brew pub that is alright (depends who is brewing there at the time) but also pretty cheap which is nice.  a lot of the state is fairly rural though so overall it's just a lot people don't have too much else to do at night.

I read that of all the brandy consumed in this country 90% of it is consumed here in Wisconsin.

I did some consulting in WI a lot of years ago, and something that impressed me was the "local bar" culture.  Folks had their little place to go and have one pint or maybe two on the way home.  Not fancy and not the place to spend hours and get your drunk on (for most).  A true pub to unwind for a little while.  We really dont have places like that in the south and probably not many other places either.
