Yeah I would have guessed WI for sure as #1.

NH is always at or near the top of these lists.  i do what i can.

Wisconsin seems to be the one that would come to mind but they're only #5.  But they are #1 in "binge drinkers" so they have that going for them.

Last time I checked, the Medical definition of 1 "drink" in the US is 12 oz of 5% beer, and anything over 2 "drinks" was called binge drinking. That means that if you ever have 2 pints of anything over 3.75%, or 1 pint of anything over 7.5%, it qualifies as binge drinking. Those are some pretty tough standards to meet.

4 of the 5 have very high Native American populations, I actually think the numbers are skewed by that, addiction is a real bitch.  Dunno why NH is so high though.

This is Wisconsin except the skiing is nordic and we've traded higher taxes for many more lakes.

That number is skewed. Most of the students at UND and NDSU are Minnesotans and aren't counted in with the population and with the small number of people that reside in ND it greatly impacts that average.

Ain't no sorrow here in Wisconsin.  We just enjoy alcohol, and I believe we have more bars per square mile than anywhere else on earth.  Heck... I have 3 bars less than one block away from my house... I promise you that is NOT an exaggeration!  Just a common thing living in downtown small-town Wisconsin.  And Crabby Bill's just a few buildings away from me has ~30 craft beers in bottles and 5 craft beers on tap at all times.  No Bud or Miller there neither!  I feel so lucky.

 

Now in the Dakotas and big chunks of Montana, there truly is NOTHING to do but drink.  I haven't been to NH so I can't speak to the culture out there, but I've always wanted to pay a visit.

If NH is anything like Vermont, I salute you.  I was in Burlington and other spots in Vermont and the beer culture was awesome.  I'm thinking NH is right up there.  Only 'drunker'.
