My buddy came up from NC recently and hooked me up with a keg para gratis. For his great deed, I rewarded him with copious amounts of home brew. I just drilled it out and installed a weld-less fitting and a ball valve. I'm pressure testing the fitting as I type, and all is looking good. I can now brew 10 gallons of 1.065 and under beer. I'll probably stick with 5 gallon batches until I upgrade my mash-tun, but who knows. I might get crazy. What kind of boil off rate can I expect out of this bad boy? Standard turkey frying burner. I'd assume somewhere around 35,000-45,000 BTU.

It depends completely on how much heat you pile on. I recommend you shoot for about 1.5gal/hr.

Agreeing perfectly with George, I always do 90 min boils, and I lower the flame to keep a low rolling-shimmering boil, not violent or crazy, and I lose 2-2.25 gallons in the 90 minutes. BTW, with your new batch size does that make you quadrupelEntendre?

On somewhat of a side note, if you were to get another keg (I'm assuming you mean a 15.5 sankey keg) you could convert that to a MT. I maxed that out with about 50 # of malt for a 10 gallon batch

I do this with a big white cooler, I think its 120 qts, 30 gallons. Only problem is you can't apply heat to it, but I usually just do single infusion mashes so it works for me.

Oof, that's a big cooler. One of those marine coolers I assume?
