I think American lagers are MORE to style with 2-row instead of pilsner, actually, because the pilsner taste is distracting from the nothingness that should be American lager.

If you are talking bjcp I agree with American Standard, but I could argue American Premium can be to style with pils malt. Classic exams include Heinken, becks stella etc, all which you can tast the pils malt. But there are also American version listed in the premium cat ( I assume michelob) which don't have the Pilsner malt flavor I personally think that they should have an american lager category and continnential lager category.
