So one of the cool things about brewing is seeing the fermentation process. I loved seeing vigorous krausen threatening a blowout. Now that I used Fermcap on this last batch, the krausen is underwhelming. Is this just me?

Yes, I use it. But only with large batches in the kettle and fermenter with little head space.

Lots of discussion of this, but if "used as directed" is well below recommended thresholds. I think no need to worry. Same ingredient in Mylicon drops for gassy babies and many anti-gas OTC meds. I think the original recommendation for filtering related to Silicon Dioxide in Biofine.

I avoid using it if possible due to the possible health implications. i don't think it's a major issue, but I have enough medical problems already that I don't need to chance adding any more.

I love how threads have a life of their own. I just miss seeing the huge krausen that I saw in my previous batches without Fermcap. I also kinda like gambling on blow off tube versus none
