I couldn't find the original thread for this, but I figured that this was worthy of another post. Last night I picked up a 4 pack of Dogfish head 90 min IPA. Got home, popped the cap and was greeted with this wonderful scent. I was like "Alright, that smelled heavenly - there is promise that this is worth the 12.00 for 4 pack". Next I poured it into my Arrogant Bastard pint glass and admired the nice dark amber color and white frothy head, and still great aroma which I couldn't stop sniffing.First sip and I was hooked. What a great balance of maltyness and hops. Definitely one of if not THE best IPA I've had.

It really is one of the best IPAs out there, but it's just a touch over the top for me. I like my IPAs to be slightly more subdued like Goose Island's. That said, It's still something I would love to be drinking right now!

The 120 Minute is an experience for sure. But, if you enjoy the 90 Minute for the bitterness, you might find yourself a little disappointed with the 120 Minute. It is, as you would expect to balance out all the hops, VERY malty. Almost syrupy. This, IMO, takes a lot away from the beer. There seems to be a saturation point where the hops cannot balance out all of the malt that one needs to use in order to attempt to achieve a malt/hop balance. I will enjoy a 120 every other year or so, when I get my hands on one. But, the 60 and the 90 are both better beers. The 120 is just extreme.

I don't know about the 120 being malty but it is sweet for sure. The 120 is something you need to try every now and then but I completely agree: for regular drinking, the 60 and 90 are much more approachable.

It's an experiance for sure! I have had two bottles within about 3 months and I will say that they tasted different. the First I had was much better than the second. The second was cloyingly sweet. The first was excelent, still sweet but much more tolerable. Very syrupy and dense. If you can get your hands on one I would recommend it, At least once in your life.Cheers!

I agree that the 90 and 60 are better drinking beers than 120. I enjoy all 3, but the sweetness and achohol of the 120 make it an experience more than just a beer. I regularly enjoy drinking the 90 and it is one of my favorite commercial brews.Ed

I guess malty isn't the right word to describe it, because there isn't a malt character there. You can just tell they used a lot of it because it comes off cloying.

My brother and I from time to time like to do what we call the digression. Drink a 120, then a 90, then a 60. Makes for a swell evening.

I love DFH 90 and have slight wood when I find it on tap. I think my favorite IPA was a IIPA... Hercules. It was like hops slipped me rufies and then made sweet sweet love to me.

That Hercules is some kind of delicious. Great Divide has a lot of great beers... damn why is it only 8:20am?
