So last night I was going through my equipment looking or things that needed done or whatever and realized I never made the pickup tube for my keggle, stupid me. Off to home depot I go and being me I decide to do something different, after looking around this is what I found and what I plan to do.Posted Image Posted ImageIll screw the adapter into the coupler on the SS ball valve then clut the the nipple off the sutbout and solder it to the adapter. The closed end of the stubout will also be cut open at the correct length to get it to the position on the bottom of the keggle that I want it.As I work on this today Ill post pics of how it turns out.Dan

I like where this is going. Mine is almost the same thing but I used an elbow instead of the stubout, just because that is what I had on hand.

I'd really consider getting a union so you can adjust.

For adjusting the angle? I do not have a union on mine and have no issues.

This will come apart. You can position your pickup tube where you want it and then tighten it. And you can have a separate setup for a false bottom sometime if you want that.Posted Image

That's a good idea for plan B if one were to run into problems.

What kind of problems? I am trying to think when I would have needed one and I am really drawing a blank.

when you go to tighten and things don't line up the way you'd like. I was kind of borderline when I set mine up.

Oh .. okay. I tacked mine in the pot then took it all out and soldered it up outside the pot. But I can see that.

My diptube comes straight into center then 45's straight down to less than a 1/4" off the bottom. Pretty much sucks it dry.

How do you keep the crap from going into the fermenter? I understand that most people whirlpool and drain from the side. If memory serves me well, you use a screen over your tube so if true how do you keep it from clogging up?

My keggle uses a false bottom for whole and when I use all pellets I add a screen under the FB attached to the end of the diptube. Filters everything out just fine.

Well I put a screen on the end of my pickup tube and when i went to drain it to the fermenting bucket nothing came out. I used whirlfloc and tried to whirlpool the wort then let it settle before opening the valve. Now im going to have to use the racking cane to get it into the bucket.Any ideas as to what happened?Dan

screen clogged up like a mofo

this is why I'm going to see how the no screen with whirlpooling method works.
