buzzing around my fermenters... which wouldn't be bad but mine are "open" though they do have a towel over them... still have kraüsen on top so keeping my fingers crossed.

I once had flies all over a fermentor that shot krausen all over the place. Not a one in the fermentor though and it was good beer.

You can try to get those traps. I don't know how well they work, but may be worth a shot.

yeah I have some of those fly strips, they ignore them... lol... so my daughter said, vinegar and dish detergent, so I added some to a bit of water in a mason jar and set it near the fermenters.

I have seen some that look like little plastic apples, with a red solution. I believe it is vinegar and something else to attract them.edit - I have personally used some tupperware with some red wine covered with plastic wrap that had some holes poked through it with the tines of a fork. it worked fairly well for me.

I figure if starsan can kill lacto then filling the airlock w/starsan will kill off anything a fruit fly is trying to do.

The go-to method in orchard country is red wine vinegar in a dish, covered with clear wrap with holes poked in the wrap (as mentioned above). Kills 'em by the thousands.

I've tried the little plastic apples and dishes of vinegar with detergent. Caught two so far. I'll try the plastic wrap thing.

Small pour of wine or beer, the wife's can of hairspray, my lighter and I can kill a dozen at a time.
